“We travel into the microverse. We leave a dying planet there. We discover a new place to live. We’re the light that shines amongst the stars at night… Love Won, Love Lost and Outer Space.”

In the pulsating heart of New York City, a musical entity known as Black Rose Burning, orchestrated by George Grant (bassist for Voltaire), emerges as a formidable force in the realm of dark alternative rock. This ensemble, a fusion of past and future, melds a deeply Gothic sensibility with the kinetic energy of dancefloor beats and the haunting melodies reminiscent of ’80s New Wave. Its formation in 2018 marked the convergence of talents including instrumentalist, producer, and engineer Grant, guitarist Frank Morin of World Inferno Friendship Society, and drummer Luis Infantas of Monster Zero.

Their sound, channeling the spectral echoes of Ultravox and Colourbox, and the transformative resonance of Winds of Change-era Scorpions, is a journey through time and genre. At moments, their music aligns with the spectral essence of The Damned, The Cult, and The Mission. Black Rose Burning navigates the foggy alleyways of art-pop with a post-punk verve, reminiscent of a noir-new romantic figure, transposed against a backdrop that blurs the lines between the grit of the urban landscape, and the boundless possibilities of the universe.

Now, Black Rose Burning presents Ad Astra, the title track from their invigorating third album Ad Astra, along with a clever new sci-fi video.

“I was always intrigued by the Latin phrase Ad Astra Per Aspera (to the stars with difficulty) – even when I was a kid,” Grant muses. “I have also spent a great amount of time in my life pondering a question – why are we all fighting and destroying planet Earth instead of reaching for the stars together? The way mankind is at this moment in history, I’m not even sure we deserve the greater universe. I’m hopeful that one day we will.”

Grant approached the record with this mantra in mind, interlacing technical and futuristic themes with timeless tales of broken hearts, broken dreams, and – as ever- hope.

“I quite honestly took my love, as an avid Sci-Fi fan, and poured it into quite a few of these songs and into the overall feel of the record,” he says. But don’t get me wrong – there’s plenty of both love and heartbreak written into it as well.”

In the Kubrick-inspired music video, viewers are transported into a near-future dystopia, a setting where the weariness of world-travelers is palpable. These voyagers embark on an odyssey that stretches into the furthest expanses of space, distancing themselves from Earth’s shortcomings. Accompanied by a strikingly beautiful hook, the video propels us at breathtaking velocity through the vastness of the cosmos. This visual voyage prompts contemplation: what mysteries lie in the uncharted territories of space? Is there a realm superior to our troubled Earth? The video leaves us in a state of hopeful speculation, pondering the possibilities that lie beyond our known universe.

Ad Astra was recorded in George’s own studio, PV Recording Company. and mastered by ACTORS‘ Jason Corbett at Jacknife Sound.

Ad Astra is the result of the real first time collaboration of the musicians who have been playing with my project in a live setting and myself,” says Grant. “On previous records, I recorded them solo – playing and programming all of the instruments. It only made sense to take it to a whole new level by taking a slight back seat and letting the fantastic musical brains I have surrounded myself with, to step into some spotlight and show their talent. Sonically it’s a major leap forward in the ever-growing sound of Black Rose Burning in every way. Letting experts do what they do has resulted in – a lush soundscape that’s better than I could have ever hoped for. And even though I again wrote all the material, having partners who understand my vision is both invaluable and awe -inspiring,”

In 2021, Black Rose Burning released their second album, The Wheel, one year after debuting The Year of the Scorpion. George Grant’s soulful vocal delivery, instantly recognizable voice, and solid instrumentation are standout features of this music.

Black Rose Burning has also contributed their exclusive Ad Astra (COLD VIGOR Microverse Remix) to the Goths for Sanctuaries compilation, which aims to raise funds for animal sanctuaries, shelters and rescues – and to bring the goth community together in mutual support.

Do you remember me?
Are you fond of me still?
Are my pictures on your phone?
Are our memories
clouded by your weakness?
Do you still suffer on your own?

NYC vocalist and lyricist Suzy Clue introduces her inaugural single, “Remember Me.” Collaborating with notable associates from both New York and London, she teamed up with Speedy Underground’s Dan Carey, known for his work with Fontaines D.C., Kae Tempest, and Wet Leg, as well as the adept producer/engineer Attila Lee Anrather, linked with Clovis and Quarters of Change. The new song is currently available digitally via Sparta, an initiative by 300 Entertainment.

Remember Me” explores themes of heartbreak, loss, and the clash of melancholy and guttural rage of being left behind by the one you love through the sounds of heavy shoegaze, emo, indie, and alternative rock,” says Clue.

The lyrics to Remember Me convey the pain of a past relationship, with the singer reflecting on moments shared and questioning the genuineness of the former partner’s love. The repetitive questioning of whether they are “enough” and assertions about the partner’s repeated behavior hint at a cycle of pain and perceived betrayal.

Hailing from Albania and transitioning to the NYC milieu at the age of 8, Suzy Clue immersed herself deeply into the South London musical fabric, collaborating with the likes of Pretty Sick, Double Virgo, Viji, and Mitsubishi Suicide. After a riveting act in London, where she opened for Pretty Sick at The Lafayette, Suzy returned to New York, promptly delivering another lauded performance before Porches at Baby’s All Right. This October, she will celebrate her single’s release with a New York show, with an anticipated EP to follow soon after.

Show dates:

  • October 25th – Single Release Show (with support from Comet, Taraneh, and Pretty Sick) @ Baker Falls NYC
  • October 28th – opening for Pretty Sick @ The Hancock NYC

Unhappily Ever Now, the industrial/progressive-rock project founded by Cleopatra Records (Green Jellö) songwriter Stephen Watson with songwriter and. vocalist Maria V, announces their latest offering, “Pleading (The Haunting of Scars) [Rabbit Junk Remix].”

Underneath the potent helm of influence from the likes of Stabbing Westward, TOOL, and A Perfect Circle, their music unfurls with a complexity that mirrors a labyrinth and an ambition that challenges the stars. They do not anchor themselves strictly within these genre borders, however: their sound is a chameleon, drinking in the multicolored spectrum of musical genres and reflecting an ever-changing, prismatic palette back to the world. This practice enables them to press their fingertips against the glass ceiling of creative boundaries. Through this dynamic journey of musical metamorphosis, they encapsulate their vision and message, a gift to an audience that swells in number and diversity with each passing moon.

As part of their creative odyssey, they engage in a perpetual dance of remix collaborations with fellow artisans whose soundscapes share common ground. This remix moves more into NIN territory, with its icy synths tempering the raw industrial beats and bringing Maria V’s gorgeous harmonies into a new limelight.

In the capable hands of JP Anderson, the Rabbit Junk Remix of the track morphs the commanding urgency of the original’s pulsating bass, sky-climbing guitars, and harmonies that shimmer like a mirage into an entirely new beast. The result is a new creation steeped in shadows, tinged with a melancholy dreaminess. It breathes life into a distinct identity, pulling threads from the shadowy depths of synthwave to weave a rhythm that entices the body into a swaying, midnight-hued dance. This darker, dreamier incarnation stirs the embers of the night, enveloping listeners in a brooding symphony of sounds that’s both compelling and beautifully unsettling.

“This single was so special for us to create and share with the world,” Maria V says.  “As music fans that love multiple genres, collaborating with artists we admire gives us the ability to take our songs to another level.  We have been Rabbit Junk fans for some time, and JP Anderson is a master at bending genres, so we knew our song was in great hands.”

Listen below:

The remix is available now on all streaming platforms . An official music video is coming later this summer. Stay tuned for the next remix of “Pleading (The Haunting of Scars)” by Walter Flakus (StabWalt) of Stabbing Westward.

Recently, NYC experimental rock outfit The Mortal Prophets (helmed by the formidable John Beckmann) announced the forthcoming release of their sophomore LP, Dealey Plaza Blues.

Today, the band unravels their third single from the album, a reinterpretation of the venerable blues classic, “Down on Me.” Echoing the transformative spirit of Janis Joplin, who gave the song a fresh twist with her 1960s vibe in 1967, Beckmann presents a modern adaptation steeped in techno elements. His rendition weaves an enchanting narrative, striking a chord as compelling as its historical counterparts.

Dealey Plaza Blues, a sublime melange of seven familiar tunes wrapped in new attire and three original compositions, captivates so entirely that it’s nearly impossible to distinguish the old from the new. Beckmann’s potent, lurking baritone, in ‘Down On Me,‘ assumes an almost spectral guise against a backdrop of psychedelia. It is a contemporary resurrection of the timeless blues standard, brought to life with an injection of 2020s adrenaline, courtesy of the collaborative genius of Joe Filisko, Dylan Day, Tommy Bohlen, and the multifaceted co-producer/musician, Alexander Krispin. The song emerges anew, bathed in an ethereal light, as though reborn through Beckmann – and him, reborn through it.

On the new single and the forthcoming LP, The Mortal Prophets’ John Beckmann has shared with Post-Punk.com some insight into a few questions we had on the release:

“Down On Me” has a history that goes back to the 1920s, withstanding the test of time. What inspired you to take your spin on it and continue its legacy for your new LP?

That’s right, “Down on Me” is a traditional freedom song from the 1920s or earlier that became popular following its remake by Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company. Eddie Head and His Family, (1930) on American Primitive Vol 1: Raw Pre-war Gospel (Revenant 206), were the first musicians to record it from my understanding, they only recorded four (4) songs, but they spiritually speak to me. We made the new version faster and more danceable, certainly more of an electronic vibe, it’s pretty off the wall, and it sounds nothing like the original in many ways.

Sonically, this project is quite experimental, seamlessly blending many different genres into one polished package. What is your general vision when you go about conceptualizing the sonic makeup of your releases, and what did that look like with this record?

Thank you. The new album “Dealey Plaza Blues,” was co-produced with Alexander Krispin (a protégé of Daniel Langois), explores new territories, and is more experimental in nature. We had a great deal of fun experimenting with different genres and styles to leverage new creative boundaries and preconceptions (including my own).

What would you say has influenced your direction as a creative, musically and in terms of your career otherwise, the most? How do these various practices inform each other?

My current practice has been to work on several projects (albums/eps) simultaneously with different producers and musicians. So, on one hand, it’s a continuation of the last album “Me and the Devil,” and on the other, it’s more experimental and edgy. Perhaps even darker, more unpredictable. The same thematic or aesthetic framework still exists, working with different collaborators and new musicians always brings fresh perspectives to the creative process, unexpected sonic textures, and an expanded musical palette to draw from.

Ultimately, I’m trying to blur the boundaries, which allows me to move fluidly between various conceptual boxes. I’m currently working again with two producers on a bunch of new material, but I’m going to surprise you and not tell you what we’re up to, it’s been anenormously creative period.

Listen to “Down On Me” below:

Dealey Plaza Blues follows in the hallowed footsteps of Horses, Contort Yourself and Marquee Moon as Beckmann takes well-worn, tradition-based templates and blows them wide open. The paradox of familiarity reimagined bursts through the album.

In the labyrinthine corridors of a mall record store during his formative years, Beckmann’s taste buds were first tantalized by “weird German shit.” Here, he cultivated a fondness for the esoteric tunes of Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. His encounter with Captain Beefheart’s former companion-in-arms, Gary Lucas, set him sailing towards the sonic harbour that Mortal Prophets now call home. Beckmann’s reinvention of these perhaps not-so-modern art forms may initially seem a jolting evolution. However, once the ears embrace the sounds, it’s perceived more as a natural metamorphosis. From this point, the implications become intriguingly boundless. If Beckmann can reinvigorate the blues and lend new life to the rock’n’roll penned by Otis Blackwell, it stands to reason that his talent seems as limitless as the cosmos itself.

Last year, The Mortal Prophets shared their debut LP, Me and the Devil, on which Beckmann joined forces with Irish musician and producer William Declan Lucey (Rubyhorse, Leftbank) to develop the record’s atmospheric, noisy sound. Additionally, it features collaborations with Morphine’s Dana Colley, vocalist Aoibheann Carey-Philpott, and more. Previously, The Mortal Prophets dropped an EP, Stomp the Devil, produced by David Sisko and featuring collaborations with Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart).

Dealey Plaza Blues is out on July 28th.

She pulls a memory from a box

Down beneath from a photograph

Back to life A gift in wraps

New York City’s masked quintet NØIR returns at last for the band’s eighth release, a sensuous dance anthem entitled “Fallen.” Veteran vocalist Athan Maroulis, guitarist/producer Erik Gustafson (Adoration Destroyed), vocalist Kai Irina Hahn (The Sedona Effect), cellist Rebekah Feng (The Neuro Farm), guitarist/producer Ray Wilcox created the song as a tribute to the late Metropolis Records founder Dave Heckman.

The single brings to mind Human League and Heaven 17, with its two remixes by Silver Walks and Paradox Obscur.

The song’s lyrics depict a journey of self-discovery and introspection. Many of us get mired in a repetitive pattern or life cycle, saddled with the fluctuating nature of thoughts and emotions. The retrieval of a memory from a photograph suggests a longing for the past, possibly a time of greater contentment. The past, though possibly painful, is also cherished, wrapped in layers of nostalgia. It’s a hypnotic commentary on the human tendency to romanticize time gone by while struggling to break free from cyclic patterns.

In the heart of the ancient metropolis that is Athens, Greece, a cinematic manifestation of the divine unfolds like wings, courtesy of director Paradox Obscur. The music video for “Fallen (Paradox Obscur Mix)” has been released, presenting visuals that are not simply directed but meticulously crafted, skillfully etched into our comprehension, enriching our understanding of the underlying message. The fabric of the video stitches together a hymn of angels in urban vigil, guarding our mundane world with their celestial insights.

Taking cues from Wim Wenders’ enduring masterpiece, Wings of Desire, the video becomes a cryptic canvas that paints a picture of the ineffable duet between the light and the shadow of the soul. It reminds us that one cannot truly perceive the brilliance of the light without recognizing the consuming darkness of the shadow. They exist, forever intertwined, an indispensable binary.

The silver screen becomes a stage for the ethereal narrative of sultry smoke curling into the air, embodying the transient nature of our existence. It captures the seductive sway of sensual dance, a testament to the pulsating rhythm of life. Intense, yet inviting gazes from our higher selves serve as a potent reminder of the divine guidance that eternally watches over us, directing our souls on the path of righteousness.

The symbiotic essence of light and shadow within our souls is encapsulated in this video. They find their existence in each other, much like the angels in the cityscape, inseparable, indistinguishable, two sides of the same coin. One with the virtue and vice of our souls, they stand as the dual guards of our mortal journey.

Watch the video for the “Fallen” Paradox Obcur remix below:

Emerging from the shadows with their dramatic entrance in 2013’s “Darkly Near“, post-punk sensation NØIR solidified their presence in the scene. However, the enigmatic ensemble truly began to stir the gloomy waters of their sonic abyss with the late 2019 release, “A Pleasure.” Following this, the collective plunged into the creation of the “Fallen” EP, a project shrouded in interruption and tragedy, forced into hibernation by the pandemic.

2022 saw a resumption of NØIR’s creative endeavours, although not without further trials. The project was momentarily paused once more due to the untimely demise of Metropolis Records founder, Dave Heckman. In a twist of irony, the delayed completion of the EP led to an unexpected creative detour. The originally separate plans for an acoustic EP became entwined with “Fallen,” the influence of which can be distinctly heard in their haunting rendition of The Psychedelic Furs’ classic, “Love My Way.”

Following their electrifying performances at prominent festivals such as The Unconvention and Dark Force Fest, and with Athan Maroulis wrapping up background work on the final season of the acclaimed “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel“, Metropolis Records has triumphantly heralded the release of “Fallen” on all digital and streaming platforms. Multifaceted avant-garde New York artist Ken Fury, or Kenneth Marez Jr., originally hails from Pueblo, Colorado. His artistry, inspired by his Nuevomexicano and Indigenous Genízaro roots, delves into the dichotomies of life — creation and destruction — and the intricate bond between mankind and the natural world. Fury’s work is a rich tapestry of multidimensional figures, abstractions, and spaces, all woven from the threads of his dreams, subconscious musings, and life encounters. His creative vision is imbued with themes of love, mortality, transformation, eroticism, spirituality, and the lingering impacts of colonization.

Fury’s latest offering, the sublime track “Rain Over Clouds,” adds further depth to these motifs. It’s an inspiring ode that beckons the soul to transcend the confines of the corporeal realm, carving out a space for unadulterated truth.

The song echoes the experimental tones of Bowie, specifically the ethereal “Blackstar,” while simultaneously introducing a contemporary, electronic twist to traditional indigenous hymns dedicated to nature. It’s a heartfelt tribute to our Mother Earth.

A compelling visual companion to the track, directed by Fury himself, showcases the awe-inspiring landscapes of his ancestral lands in New Mexico and southern Colorado…a loving testament to our inherent ties to the natural world.

“Our existence stems from and relies on it,” he explains. “The video serves as a symbolic reflection of my connection to my ancestral homelands and features locations that are significant to me. I wanted to share the beauty of these landscapes through my perspective and to preserve them.”

During the filming of the song “Rain Over Clouds,” the video production was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic as many locations were inaccessible. “The process of creating the video spanned several years, as I had to navigate travel restrictions and commute back and forth from New York City,” he reflects.

The wait, however, was worth it: his love for the land and its sacred meaning is palpable in this incredible video.

In a remarkable decade-plus journey that took flight in 2010, Ken Fury has been crafting a unique sonic universe, fusing together elements of his poetry, imagery from his paintings, and the visceral pulse of dance. By wielding electronic instruments like drum machines, synthesizers, theremin, along with bass and guitar, Fury has painted an audioscape that’s both distinctive and compelling.

From Flowers Fall Asleep (2012) to Moonlight Bloom (2013), The Cry of Nature’s Birth (2016), and most recently, Rain Over Clouds (2020), Fury has not just played the role of the composer, but also that of the performer, releasing each of these projects on his own label, Inerus Music. Each album is a testament to his prowess, offering a journey through soundscapes that seem to shimmer between the realms of reality and the surreal, with a sonic narrative delicately balancing the old and the new, and everything in between.

Fury’s lyrics, on the other hand, are a remarkable blend of the romantic, the science fiction, and the futuristic, creating an intoxicating cocktail that draws listeners in. His music often acts as a canvas for his short films, which have been recognized and celebrated at various film festivals around the globe.

Adding to his growing list of accomplishments, Ken was recognized as a 2022 nominee at the Native American Music Awards. A testament to his relentless creativity and a celebration of his dedication to his craft.

Ken Fury is set to raise the bar even higher with his upcoming album, Plains of Inferno, slated for release this summer.

Emerging from the heart of Texas, darkwave duo Twin Tribes have been making their mark on the international scene, ascending the ranks to become one of the subculture’s most talked-about acts. They stormed into the spotlight back in 2018 with their debut album “Shadows,” an intoxicating blend of brooding melodies, atmospheric synths, and lyrics drenched in the chillingly macabre and mystic. The duo’s distinct sound had an immediate impact, establishing them as a tantalizingly fresh force in the music world, that reinvigorated both gothic rock and the darker side of post-punk.

Fast-forwarding to 2020, Twin Tribes further fortified their standing with a ten-track masterpiece, “Ceremony.” Their second album marked an audacious evolution in their sonic palette, delving deeper into narratives of love and loss, underpinned by an even more elaborate musical tapestry. This artistic progression demonstrated not only their growth as a band but also their readiness to blur lines and take audacious risks.

The music of Twin Tribes is a harmonious balance of dynamism and introspection, artfully entwining the darker shades of the emotional spectrum into their compositions. Their lyrical navigation through personal upheavals – love, life, loss – paints a raw, vivid tableau that’s as entrancing as it is poignant. The end result is a union of the gothic and romantic, a unique aesthetic that reinterprets these themes through a decidedly dark lens.

In a recent conversation with Post-Punk.com, Luis and Joel of Twin Tribes were asked to shed light on five up-and-coming bands they admire and think you should be tuning into right now:

HARSH SYMMETRY

Luis: Since the release of the single “Mirror Twin,” this band has been on my regular rotation of music. The debut album “Display Model” is a breath of fresh Cold Wave air. Analogue synthesizers, 80’s drum machines, and melodic guitars filled with chorus bring us Harsh Symmetry.

ULTRA SUNN

Luis: Ultra Sunn is a band that we blast while doing makeup, and getting pumped for our shows. Their catchy and gritty bass synths along with epic snares, will hypnotize you onto the dance floor. They are on our list of artists who we’d like to perform with in the future. Keep your eyes peeled for this band.

NUOVO TESTAMENTO

Joel: I was hooked as soon as I heard Michelle Michelle. Shortly after, the video for The Searcher came out in all of its delightfully danceable perfection. It further cemented my love for the band. New Earth was one long Italo-disco dance party, and is worth a listen from start to finish.

GENERAL DYNAMICS

Joel: The debut album from scene masterminds, Sarin and Qual, is a relentless electronic assault. Fittingly named, Weaponize Your Dreams can easily be the soundtrack to a post apocalyptic nightmare world inhabited by mutants, and filled with nuclear sludge. One of my favorite records to listen to recently.

LUZ FUTURO

Luis and Joel: All we needed to hear was the song, Sueños. Daniel had us from then on. It only got better once we were able to hear all of his album, Falsos Techos. It is played at least once in its entirety whenever we are out on the road touring. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

Since their formation, Twin Tribes has been a commanding presence on the US live circuit, cutting their teeth alongside established luminaries such as Clan of Xymox, Boy Harsher, She Past Away, and Kaelan Mikla.  Their touring prowess extends beyond American borders as well. In 2021, Twin Tribes took the European darkwave scene by storm, headlining their own tour and sharing stages with the likes of the genre’s stalwarts, Lebanon Hanover. This international exposure has helped to broaden their fanbase and sharpen their sonic sensibilities, further fueling their rapid ascent.

In addition to their exhaustive touring schedule, Twin Tribes has graced the lineups of some of the most prestigious festivals in the dark underground scene. Their standout performances include Substance Festival in Los Angeles, Sinner’s Day in Belgium, Cold Waves in Chicago, Absolution Fest in Tampa, A Murder of Crows in NYC, Psycho Fest in Las Vegas, and SXSW in their home state of Texas have demonstrated their ability to captivate audiences on the grandest of stages. Their largest festival to date lies ahead: Cruel World Festival in Pasadena (a limited number of passes have just been released!).

Portland post-punk act Shadowhouse are embarking on a two-week sonic adventure across Europe, accompanied by Los Angeles synth-punk pair Terminal A. The pair of bands have united to champion Shadowhouse’s newest darkwave offering, Forsaken Forgotten. And as Terminal A makes their thrilling European debut, Shadowhouse finally returns to enchant the continent for the first time since 2015.

The tour kicks off on April 23rd in Liège, Belgium, and will take the two bands through Germany, Poland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, and Austria. A climactic finale awaits at Schöppche Keller in Frankfurt on May 5th, where the night will be graced by the fleeting reunion of 80’s Düsseldorf icons They Fade in Silence, who emerge from a twenty-year slumber for this exclusive appearance.  Among the highlights of the tour are stops at Schokoladen in Berlin, JUZ Mannheim, and a special performance with Kaltfront at Juzi in Göttingen.

More info on Shadowhouse:

Founded by Shane McCauley, Shadowhouse has been captivating audiences with their nostalgic, introspective take on post-punk for nearly a decade. As the band enters its eighth year and embarks on a new chapter, their latest LP, Forsaken Forgotten, sees them pushing their sound into uncharted territory while remaining rooted in their punk rock origins.

Influenced by the likes of The Chameleons, Shadowhouse has weathered numerous lineup changes without compromising their artistic vision. Currently comprised of Shane McCauley and Carl Simpson on guitar, Tapani ‘Taps’ Sernesky on bass, Noel Silhan on keys, and Thomas Michael on drums, the band’s foundation is stronger than ever. Their past tours have taken them across the United States, Europe, and beyond, sharing stages with the likes of Mode Moderne, The Mob, Eleven Pond, Trisomie 21, Gitane Demone Quartet, Ash Code, Geometric Vision, Melting Walkmen, Horror Vacui, and Masquerade, among others. Shadowhouse has also made a name for themselves on the festival circuit, with appearances at Poland’s Return to the Bat Cave, Canada’s Verboden, and their hometown’s Out in the Shadows.

The band has consistently released compelling music, starting with their stunning 2013 single “Haunted,” backed by “Lonely Psalm.” This momentum led to a four-way split release by Resurrection Records alongside Cat Party, Terminal A, and Etilo Mañtalini, as well as their debut LP Hand in Hand with Mass Media Records in 2014.  Shadowhouse’s most recent single, Conformity/Fall Down, was released by Gone Home Records in December 2017.

More info on Terminal A:

Los Angeles-based synth/post-punk duo Terminal A are finally making their European debut. Hailing from the San Pedro area, Terminal A consists of vocalist Colin Peterson and guitarist Lee Busch, who have been captivating audiences since 2012 with their unique blend of punk, deathrock, industrial, and avant-garde electronic music. Renowned for their highly energetic performances, Terminal A draws inspiration from the Viennese Actionists, Brecht, and Artaud’s Theater of Cruelty. Their powerful presence on stage has earned them accolades.

With three EPs, a handful of singles, and several music videos under their belt, Terminal A has already established a strong following in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They have toured extensively, been featured as official showcase artists at SXSW, and have been mainstays of the legendary Part Time Punks club night. Aside from their work with Terminal A, Peterson, and Busch are also part of a side project that includes members of iconic bands such as Gun Club, The Cramps, and The Bags. This European tour, however, marks their first live appearance outside of North America.

As the tickets for The Cure’s much-awaited North American tour go live today at 10 AM across several time zones through Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan platform, many fans found themselves either triumphant or stranded on the notorious waitlist to gain access. A quick perusal of social media unveiled the multitudes of fans in anticipation, many of whom were already relegated to the waitlist.

The situation was further exacerbated by numerous resale websites listing The Cure tickets at outrageous prices even before the official sales began, sowing chaos and confusion. Robert Smith, always a champion of affordability, promptly addressed the issue. He took to Twitter with his signature all-caps style, cautioning fans about the con artists lurking in the “secondary ticket market.”

Smith continued the discourse on Twitter, shedding light on the band’s decision to employ Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan system. Recognizing its imperfections, Smith elaborated on how Verified Fan aims to combat scalpers and ensure that fans have access to tickets at a fair price. The Cure maintained control over ticket pricing and steered clear of “dynamic pricing” and “platinum ticket” ploys.

TM HAVE JUST TOLD ME “ALL tickets for The Cure Shows Of A Lost World Tour will be made available during tomorrow’s Verified Fan Sale” SEEMS THE RESPONSE TO REGISTRATION HAS BEEN PRETTY OVERWHELMING – THANKS! HOWEVER, I REALISE THERE ARE PROBLEMS, SOME MORE REAL THAN OTHERS…

WE HAD FINAL SAY IN ALL OUR TICKET PRICING FOR THIS UPCOMING TOUR, AND DIDN’T WANT THOSE PRICES INSTANTLY AND HORRIBLY DISTORTED BY RESALE – WE WERE TOLD “In North America the resale business is a multi-billion $ industry. The touts are sophisticated businesses that are expert at acquiring tickets, and the major marketplaces like Vivid, Stubhub and Seatgeek spend tens of millions of dollars on marketing. The touts get an unfair share of tickets and resell them on these marketplaces.”

WE WERE TOLD “Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan platform has been used more than 400 times to qualify buyers and reduce the % of tickets on the secondary market. Using Verified Fan scalping is regularly reduced by 80%, with typically fewer than 5% of tickets on the secondary market after a Verified Fan campaign. Listed below are a few of the artists who have effectively used VF to limit resale.”

WE WERE CONVINCED THAT TICKETMASTER’S “Verified Fan Page” AND “Face Value Ticket Exchange” IDEAS COULD HELP US FIGHT THE SCALPERS

(WE DIDN’T AGREE TO THE ‘DYNAMIC PRICING’ / ‘PRICE SURGING’ / ‘PLATINUM TICKET’ THING… BECAUSE IT IS ITSELF A BIT OF A SCAM? A SEPARATE CONVERSATION!)

WE KNOW IT IS A FAR FROM PERFECT SYSTEM – BUT THE REALITY IS THAT IF THERE AREN’T ENOUGH TICKETS ONSALE, A NUMBER OF FANS ARE GOING TO MISS OUT WHATEVER SYSTEM WE USE; AT LEAST THIS ONE TRIES TO GET TICKETS INTO THE HANDS OF FANS AT A FAIR PRICE…

…AND/OR WE SHOULD PLAY MORE/BIGGER SHOWS? HA!!! ONWARDS…

Regarding concerns that there would only be a set number of tickets for the Verified Fan Presale, Smith also clarified that Ticketmaster told him: “We will continue to sell tickets to those who are verified until there are no more tickets to sell.”
