Night Sins, the Philadelphia-based project steered by the charismatic Kyle Kimball, has dropped a new video for “The Lowest Places You’ll Go.” This track melds the driving force of classic EBM with the introspective depth of post-punk and the melodic hooks of synth-pop. Echoing the raw energy of early Nine Inch Nails and the dark, emotive pull of Depeche Mode, the song also tips its hat to the electronic fervor of the ’80s, channeling the likes of Front 242 and A Split Second, with a nod to the funky pioneering sounds of Wax Trax’s late 80s roster.

Kimball’s vocal prowess shines brightly, infusing the track with a captivating presence that demands attention. The video is a powerful yet simple visual narrative that strips away the unnecessary, focusing on Kimball in a raw, unguarded state. Shot in a classic 4:3 format, it shows him at a table, the scene set starkly with a broken wine bottle. In a moment of intense vulnerability, Kimball drinks from the jagged edge, the act leaving him bleeding from the mouth—a potent and distressing image that resonates deeply.

This scene vividly recalls the visceral performances of Nivek Ogre from Skinny Puppy, known for his immersive and often jarring stage personas that blend the boundaries between art and reality. Like Ogre’s memorable enactments, Kimball’s self-inflicted wound here is more than shock value; it’s a metaphor for the pain and catharsis embedded in “The Lowest Places You’ll Go,” highlighting the track’s exploration of personal depths and the struggle for self-acceptance.

The song and its video serve as a reminder that our darkest moments do not define our entire existence, As Kimball explains:

“The Lowest Places You’ll Go is a reminder that you are not who you are at your worst. It’s a reminder that everyone has value and is worthy of love. No one should be paralyzed by fear.  Move with it and through it. Break away.”

Watch the video for “The Lowest Places You’ll Go” below:

Emerging from the shadow-laden streets of Philadelphia, Night Sins has been a dark beacon since the early 2010s, weaving a path that follows in the wake of the legacies carved out by The Sisters of Mercy, Clan of Xymox, and other darkwave pioneers. Their sound—a mix of robust rhythms, atmospheric synths, and Kimball’s distinctive vocals—crafts an immersive world that’s both nostalgic and distinctly fresh.

With “The Lowest Places You’ll Go” setting the tone, Night Sins’ forthcoming five-track EP “A Silver Blade in the Shadow” is shaping up to be a definitive statement of their craft. This mini-album, due out May 17th on Born Losers Records, seems poised to reinforce the band’s standing in the dark music sphere, showcasing the distinctive blend of sound and raw edge that they bring to the table.

Restless Presents, in partnership with SYNTHICIDE and Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, announces the single-day lineup, single event passes, and ticket bundle packages for FLESH & STEEL, a multi-venue, multi-date descent into darkness. The first-ever edition of NYC’s dark music festival was named after the SPK song from the 1983 album Machine Age Voodoo.

Welcoming all flavours of darkwave, industrial, EBM, and coldwave, the festivities commence in Brooklyn from December 1st- December 3rd. Conceptualized and curated by Restless Presents, David Castillo of Saint Vitus, and DJ/promoter/journalist Andi Harriman of SYNTHICIDEFLESH & STEEL celebrates humanity, machinery, and innovation. The lineup for this festival spans forty years of electronic bliss as well as the planet.

First, here’s a glimpse at some of headlining acts to enjoy in Gotham’s dark dwellings:

Canadian synthpop legends Psyche will be gracing the stage of St Vitus on Thursday. Psyche formed in Alberta in 1982, becoming one of Canada’s first electronic bands. Darrin Huss (vocals), his brother Stephen, and synth player Dwayne Goettel (Skinny Puppy) released a plethora of dark synth dance-floor favourites, including the hits from Unveiling the Secret.

Darkwave icons Boy Harsher break the rhythm on Friday at Knockdown Centre. Drawing heavily from cinema, theatrics and graphic design, the band has made major headway in the last few years, particularly with Pain, their infectious BDSM-tinged anthem.

Das Ding, aka Danny Bosten, will also be at Knockdown Centre on Friday. The Dutch innovator unleashed powerful dark electro in the vein of Fad Gadget, Kraftwerk and New Order as electronic music started gaining traction in the early 80s. Das Ding’s DIY tapes gained a cult following and were often featured in zines of the Dutch synth scene, but he remained relatively obscure for a couple of decades until Minimal Wave Records’ Veronica Vasicka unearthed his work after coming across a blog about unknown synth music.

Belgian EBM pioneers A Split-Second established the building blocks of EBM when they formed in 1985; their music influenced the creation of the New Beat genre. Their 1986 track Flesh is a timeless synth classic. They’ll also be at Knockdown Centre on Friday.

Who else will be materializing in NYC next weekend? Here are five of the hottest new darkwave acts that are playing at the festival:

Riki

Riki burst forth on the scene a few years ago with her captivating new-wave, post-punk, and Italo disco melodies. Her taste for nostalgia, fantasy, and a charming wistfulness comes through in her 80s synthpop and new romantic style. She’ll be gracing the stage at The Meadows on Saturday.

Catherine Moan

Catherine Moan is the time-bending solo electronic pop project of Angel Jefferson. Jefferson pays tribute to the style and instrumentation of early Depeche Mode, while channeling a soft vocal delivery reminiscent of Strawberry Switchblade’s Rose McDowall. Adrift in a sea of nostalgic bliss, the music goes beyond being completely a throwback act, with a production imbued with the modern glow of more contemporary synth-oriented artists such as Chromatics, CHVRCHES, and TR/ST. She’ll be at the Texas stage at Knockdown Centre on Friday.

Normal Bias

The collaboration of members of That Which Is Not Said (TWINS/DKA, 2MR) and Multiple Man (DKA, Fleisch), Matt Bias and Chris Normal create a humid, sleek atmosphere of dance music with a pop sensibility. Matt’s silky vocals beckon as they slide over EBM-tinged basslines and 80s synth tones. These hertztone wizards will be at the Bad Room on Saturday…if you’re feeling naughty.

Soft Crash

Berlin’s Soft Crash is the new music collaboration formed by Hayden Payne, aka Berghain resident Phase Fatale and Pablo Bozzi of Imperial Black Unit. Combining references such as William S. Burroughs and J.G. Ballard, the project explores the fetishization of technology and the body, and how the line between those is perpetually blurring. Bozzi and Payne have been at the top of the industrial techno and EBM circuit through the last several years. Payne and Bozzi look to their core influences of synthwave, disco, and early techno to carve a new path as italo body music pioneers. They’ll be making their way to the Knockdown Centre on Friday.

Night Sins

Philadelphia’s Night Sins mastermind Kyle Kimball has long been the drummer for Nothing, but Night Sins is making its own mark. Night Sins frolic down the same musical path as The Sisters of Mercy and Clan of Xymox with hints of The Mission, NIN, and Nitzer Ebb along the way. Kimball’s shadowy vocals are the glue holding the sound together, a rich baritone howling through the night fog. You can catch these dark maestros Friday on the Texas Stage at Knockdown Centre.

Restless Presents, in partnership with SYNTHICIDE and Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, announces the single-day lineup, single event passes, and ticket bundle packages for FLESH & STEEL, a multi-venue, multi-date descent into darkness.

Welcoming all flavours of darkwave, industrial, EBM, and coldwave, FLESH & STEEL launches in Brooklyn from December 1st- December 3rd. Conceptualized and curated by Restless Presents, David Castillo of Saint Vitus, and DJ/promoter/journalist Andi Harriman of SYNTHICIDE, FLESH & STEEL celebrates humanity, machinery, and new ways of thinking about all things electronic and invigorating.

FLESH & STEEL is a brand new event for New Yorkers created by New Yorkers, but the cultural resonance is nationwide. “There is a bounty of that rare synergy of community and culture between Restless Presents, Saint Vitus, and SYNTHICIDE, whose visions align on opposite coasts,” says Brian Tarney of Sacred Skin. FLESH & STEEL aims to create and lift culture coming from the heart—not the wallet.

With consecutive nights at Saint Vitus, Knockdown Center, the Meadows, and Good Room, FLESH & STEEL is poised to be the electronic/post-punk destination for the Eastern Seaboard—and beyond.

The festivities kick off Thursday at Saint Vitus with powerhouse performances by Psyche and Sacred Skin. The evening is backed by Rare DM, strident post-punks Lathe of Heaven, and mesmerizing DJ sets from G I N A and MAYLAND.

On Friday, the widely acclaimed Boy Harsher will beam into the Knockdown Center, alongside Belgian EBM legends A Split Second, and compelling dance engine Soft Crash, with DJ sets from ANDI (SYNTHICIDE) and Kontravoid. Dutch electronic music pioneers Das Ding and Ms Boan will also make appearances.

Due to popular demand, alongside the main room performances at Knockdown Center, a second stage has been added, shining a spotlight on an undercard of futurist artists, including Night Sins, Ghost Cop, Catherine Moan, and a live performance from Saint Vitus founder David Castillo with his industrial solo project Confines.

The final night culminates with two presentations manifesting as the best living electronic mixtape you’ve heard in a while. The early program begins at The Meadows featuring synth-pop/romantic icon, Riki, and synth-punk duo ORTROTASCE, with support from the propulsive Un Hombre Solo. The party then moves to the Good Room, fueled by the gritty beats of Berlin-based genre-defier Pablo Bozzi and Phase Fatale. In the Bad Room, EBM all-star act Normal Bias will perform a live set, followed by NYC industrial artists R Gamble and Becka Diamond, while Gus Muller of Boy Harsher will top off the night with a fury of cold wave, mutant disco, and techno beats.

Philadelphia darkwave act Night Sins has unveiled the video for the brooding synth-infused track “Moonlit Tsar,” a song featured on the project’s latest album Violet Age.

Dark maestro Kyle Kimball, also known for his work as the drummer for Nothing, is the mastermind behind the tenebrous and seductive music composed by his band Night Sins. Wandering the mistaken path of The Sisters of Mercy, and traveling far away with allusions to Clan of Xymox, Kimball takes us on a dark aural journey even toward the florid desolation of The Mission. Not being limited in his scope, he also draws influence from more synth pop, EBM, and industrial artists, at times channeling the spirit of Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and Nitzer Ebb.

The latest single, “Moonlit Tsar,” is an old-school synth-driven dancefloor daze, sounding at moments as if Dave Gahan were to step in and perform vocals for early Front 242, or Secession via “Touch.” The song’s accompanying video is a brilliant barrage of visual collage, perfectly syncing with the song’s shadowy mood.

Watch the video for “Moonlit Tsar.”

Night Sins is set to upon for Darkwave legends Pink Turns Blue at the Philamoca in Philadelphia, PA, on October 10th.

Philadelphia has a reputation for being a vortex of darkness, famously inspiring David Lynch’s Eraserhead. The overcast city stuffed with violence, dilapidated architecture, and a rampant opioid crisis has also inspired darkwave outfit, Night Sins, who released the new single: “Fantasy 21″.

Mastermind Kyle Kimball has long been the drummer for Nothing, but Night Sins is making its own mark. Night Sins frolic down the same musical path as The Sisters of Mercy and Clan of Xymox with hints of The Mission, NIN, and Nitzer Ebb along the way. Kimball’s shadowy vocals are the glue holding the sound together, a rich baritone howling through the night fog.

Fantasy 21 plods through a synth landscape with hypnotic drumming, honeyed vocals dripping with earnestness in the vein of Dave Gahan. There are interesting Easter egg samples within the instrumental breaks, reminiscent of Cabaret Voltaire, giving the song a rich atmosphere. There is a cool 80s-inspired visualizer for the track, looking like something created on a Vectrex.

Philadelphia’s Night Sinsthe long-running project helmed by Kyle Kimballreturns with the dark and sinister video for “Kill Like I Do”, the second single from the darkwave act’s forthcoming fifth studio album Violet Age.

To many, Kyle Kimball is known as the percussive energy found behind the drum kit of Nothing. But his long-running project Night Sins has proven to be a formidable force in the underground music scene in its own right.

Going from sounding like Depeche Mode on one track, to Nitzer Ebb on another,  “Kill Like I Do” further highlights Kimball’s versatility as both musician and frontman, with his shadowy vocals permeating the track like the industrial-grade fog machine enveloping The Sisters of Mercy’s Andrew Eldritch caustic snarl circa Floodland and Vision Thing.

“‘Kill Like I Do’ is a metaphor for having zero self control,” Kimball told Revolver of the song’s themes. “It’s about not being able to stop until you’ve hit the floor.”

Philadelphia’s Night Sins, the long-running project helmed by Kyle Kimball (drummer of Nothing), returns with the brooding and seductive first single and title track from the darkwave act’s forthcoming fifth studio album Violet Age.

The new song is a shadowy fusion of synth-pop and gloomy post-punk, propelled by a strong bassline reminiscent of New Order, with an interplay of light and dark synths evoking the 80s dancefloor haze of Depeche Mode and Clan of Xymox.
Leading the way with a charismatic vocal croon, Kimball is here at his most confident and commanding presence yet, weaving his way around mesmerizing beats, transforming already top-notch songwriting into a gloomy soundtrack for a life lived upon a razor’s edge.

“‘Violet Age’ is about the risk Vice,” Kyle says. “It’s about trying to make this life livable without hurting yourself or the ones around you.”

Philadelphia Darkwave Act Night Sins came on to the scene with its first two albums New Grave, and From To London Or The Lake, a decade ago. With their release in 2012, and 2013, a dark post-punk sound was revived—one that conjured the distinctive atmosphere found those old-school goth club nights swarmed with a cavalcade of boots on a fog-drenched dancefloor, where the DJ spins classic bands like Clan of Xymox, Killing Joke, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, and Bauhaus.

The project is led by musician Kyle Kimball, who plays drums for the popular band Nothing. With his last release with Night Sins, Portrait in Silver, Kimball showcased his sonic versatility by switching gears to unadulterated dark synth-pop and EBM, sounding like old-school Nitzer Ebb and Black Celebration era Depeche Mode”. Kimball, under the guise of Night Sins, also featured recently on the Deathsomnia track “Katabasis”.

Now, in celebration of the project’s 10th anniversary, Born Losers Records is repressing Night Sins’ goth-tinged first two albums on a limited-run cassette.

If Depeche Mode circa Black Celebration through Violator were to be shaken in chrome tumbler and poured over the icy dark synthwave sequences so in vogue these days, you would get something along the same tangential path that Philadelphia based singer/songwriter Kyle Kimball has taken on Portrait in Silver, his fourth LP under the guise of Night Sins.

After two years of silence, Kimball has emerged from the haunted web spun corners of Eldritchian gothic rock, stepped in his car, hopped on I-95, and driven the music into a world soaked in danceable neon hues, as seen previously with the album’s lead single “Annihilator”, and its accompanying video, as well as the dark and brooding followup track “Two Headed Dream”.

Now, perfect for a Friday night, whether you dancing alone in your room, or plan to wander out into the Underworld of Philadelphia, listen to the incredibly dancey “Lonely in the Mirror” below:

Musician Kyle Kimball is back with his solo project Night Sins, but instead of the guitar-driven Gothic Rock we have come to know on the previous three Night Sins LP’s, this time the music is infused unadulterated dark synth-pop and EBM, that as Revolver points out “recalls That Total Age-era Nitzer Ebb and Depeche Mode”—a far cry from what we last heard from the project on 2017’s Dancing Chrome.

This unexpected turn of events is boldly illustrated in the video for “Annihilator”, a song whose title alone recalls the name of Depeche Mode’s 1991 LP, where Kimball fuses Gahan’s vocal style into his own Reznor-esque “Black Celebration”—leading leather-clad goth lovelies to continue their reverie long after the fog machines and strobe lights have given way to the morning sun.
